DENSO Establishes New Company for Producing Engine-related Vehicle Parts in Vietnam

TOKYO, Japan - DENSO Corporation established a new manufacturing company in Hanoi, Vietnam on October 4, 2001, and will produce engine-related vehicle parts such as air flow meters and swirl control valve (SCV) actuators.

The new company named DENSO Manufacturing Vietnam Co., Ltd. will start production in September, 2003, and will supply its products to Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other areas including Europe, U.S., and Asia.

The new company's capital investment is approximately 300 million yen (US$ 2.5 million), and projects sales of approximately 3 billion yen (US$ 25 million) for fiscal 2005.

DENSO manufacturing Vietnam's facilities will include a design center that will design automotive parts and applications with three-dimensional CAD^*/CAE^** for other DENSO group companies in ASEAN and Japan.

"The ASEAN automotive market is one of the growth markets in the twenty-first century, and market competitiveness will be severer.", said Hiromi Tokuda, director of DENSO Corporation and president of DENSO Manufacturing Vietnam. "The new company will supply competitive products worldwide from the ASEAN region"

Tokuda continued "We will employ local engineers in the design center, to enhance local capabilities in development and design and strengthen the DENSO's competitiveness in the region."

DENSO's ASEAN operations includes a regional headquarters in Singapore and four manufacturing companies: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines, each of which concentrates on production of certain products and supply them to other countries. Main products for the DENSO's ASEAN companies include:

• DENSO Thailand Co., Ltd.; Starters, alternators, and wiper motors;

• P.T. DENSO Indonesia Corporation; compressors and plugs;

• DENSO Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.; Engine ECU, amplifiers, and relays; and

• Philippine Auto Components, Inc.; Instrument clusters.
